JD: NASA they have shown a huge glacier in the area of Greenland that is growing, a contradiction to global warming. Talk to me about what is the report? What have we found out and what does it mean?
DD: Greenland has of course lots of glaciers. It’s one of the major ones that they are talking about. For the last 20 years or so this particular glacier has been thinning, has been receding, a part of the whole warming story. However, over the last 2 years to the surprise of scientist this glacier is thickening and it’s advancing. It seems to be growing. So they’ve tried to come up with excuses and reasons for the growth of the glacier and apparently it has to do with ocean currents. We’re familiar with el Niño a warm ocean current. Up there near Greenland there’s what’s called the North American oscillation in the ocean which is cold water and that’s caused the coastline of Greenland to actually go down in temperature and get colder.
