Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about prayer again.
Will the medical community soon be prescribing PRAYER for its patients’ illnesses?
Believe it or not, Web MD reported a fascinating study published in The Archives of Internal Medicine — not a religious publication — on the power of intercessory prayer (see “Probing the Power of Prayer.” WebMD, 12 Jan. 2000, www.webmd.com/balance/features/probing-power-of-prayer). In the study, 1,000 heart patients at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City were placed into two random groups — one that received daily prayer from Christian volunteers, and one that received no prayer. After four weeks, the heart patients receiving prayer were 11% better than those who didn’t, a significant statistical difference — despite the fact that NONE OF THE PATIENTS KNEW THEY WERE RECEIVING PRAYER! According to Dr. William Harris, who headed up the study: “Prayer may be an effective adjunct to standard medical care.”
Bottom line? God is faithful to answer when His people simply ask for His help through prayer.
Now, what else should believers know about prayer? We’ll discuss that another time.
