Preferred Pronouns (Part 2)

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about “Preferred Pronouns” again.

A UCLA study published recently by The New York Times, noted, “The number of young people who identify as transgender has nearly doubled in recent years . . . [capturing] a stark generational shift and emerging societal embrace of a diversity of gender identities.” (Ghorayshi, Azeen. “Report Reveals Sharp Rise in Transgender Young People in the U.S.” The New York Times, 10 June 2022, www.nytimes.com/2022/06/10/science/transgender-teenagers-national-survey.html)

Some Christians have been unsure how to respond to this societal change — Should believers call men who identify as women “she” and “her” out of politeness, or should they refuse to based on their biblical worldview?

Well, as theologian David Huffstutler said, a “Christian cannot deny reality and refer to a person as being the opposite of the sex given to him or her by God. A Christian must tell the truth . . . as difficult as that may be.” (Huffstutler, David. “Should a Christian Use a Transgender Person’s Preferred Pronoun?” Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, 13 Feb. 2018, dbts.edu/2017/10/17/should-a-christian-use-a-transgender-persons-preferred-pronoun)

After all, Ephesians 4:25 commands us to speak the truth with our neighbors.

Next, we’ll talk about the role of PRAYER as it relates to health.
