Is the Garden of Eden Still Being Guarded by Angels Today?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

No. In Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve sinned, the Lord put two cherubim there to guard the entrance to the Garden of Eden. He made the statement that if Adam and Eve were, in their sin, able to get into the Garden of Eden, they would eat of the Tree of Life, and they would then live in their sin forever. God put the two angels there to guard the entrance to the Garden of Eden.

About 1,500 years after the creation and fall of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3, the Flood came along in the days of Noah (Genesis 6-8). Genesis 1-12 is the foundation in understanding the entire Word of God and, in particular, Bible prophecy. The Garden of Eden was destroyed at the time of the Flood in Genesis 6-8.

The location of the Garden of Eden is actually known. The Temple was erected there.  When Solomon built the Temple, he built it on Mount Moriah (2 Kings 3), and that is the location where Abraham brought Isaac to offer him years earlier.  That particular location, Mount Moriah – the Temple Mount in the city of Jerusalem – is the original site of the Garden of Eden. Since the Tree of Life is not located there, they need no angels to guard it.

The Jewish Orthodox scholarship says that underneath the gold dome on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the foundation stone. They will tell you that it is the place where God created Adam and Eve. It is a key point to understanding what has happened in the past. In Genesis 1:26-28, after God created Adam and Eve, He referred to them as “them.” God said, “Let’s (the trinity was involved) give them dominion over all of creation.” That’s a pattern for the kingdom to come. The place for that kingdom was the Garden of Eden.

This same location is for future prophecy as well. The Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7) says that there will be a Temple there, and the Messiah (Jesus Christ) will rule and reign from that Temple forever.  This is the original site of the Garden of Eden.  No angels are needed right now because the Tree of Life is not there. In Revelation 2:7, the overcomers (those who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior) will have a Tree of Life in the Garden of God/The Garden of Eden in the city of Jerusalem forever.  In the New Jerusalem which will hover over the earth (Revelation 22:2), there will also be a Tree of Life.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
