Patrick Henry – June 2, 1788

Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.

It’s June 2, 1788. I’m at the Virginia Convention with Anti-Federalist Patrick Henry.

JG: “Governor Henry, why have you so passionately spoken out against a strong federal government?”

PH: “Mr. Gillespie, we ought to be extremely cautious, watchful, jealous of our liberty. For instead of securing our rights, we may lose them forever. Sovereignty is “We the States,” not “We the Federal Government!”

Patrick Henry played a key role in securing a Bill of Rights to our Constitution.
