Fast Facts: Blue Whale – Part II

Carl Kerby

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope, I’m Carl Kerby.

Did you know that the loudest animal on the planet is the . . . Blue Whale?  Yes, it’s louder than a screeching monkey, a barking seal, or even a jet airplane! It’s so loud that it can be heard up to 500 miles away! Well, that’s if you could hear them. You see, Blue Whales communicate at a frequency of 10 – 40 hertz, which is too low for most humans to recognize. Incredibly, no one knows how they even make the sound!

Even crazier is this – they don’t have ears but have excellent hearing!

The Blue Whale is one incredibly designed animal! It has a heart and respiratory system that adapts to diving, it has a baleen feeding system (flexible keratin plates attached to the upper jaw), and it’s perfectly designed for speed despite its size. While some theorize that this blue beauty evolved from a mouse-like creature, the truth is there’s no evidence to support that.  All this complexity cannot just come together. The Blue Whale is unique and perfectly designed – just like you!

We’ll share more in the next Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope. Until then, stay bold!
