Carl Kerby is president & founder of Reasons for Hope.  Prior to forming Reasons for Hope, he was a founding board member of Answers in Genesis and served there for 15 years.  Carl is a former air-traffic controller at Chicago-O’Hare.  He is co-creator and host for the video series, Weapons of Mass Instruction, presenter of the DVD series for teens, Demolishing Strongholds, and presenter on the Becoming Bold series for teens and adults.  He is producer of the DeBunked video series.  He’s also an author of numerous books including his latest release, Did Jesus Commit Suicide: And 27 Other Questions.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking our nation and the world by storm.  Jim proved the point by quoting from Statista which says, “…revenue from the Artificial Intelligence (AI) software market worldwide is expected to reach 126 billion dollars by 2025.  As per Gartner, 37% of organizations have implemented AI in some form.  The percentage of enterprises employing AI grew 270% over the past 4 years.”

“According to Servion Global Solutions, by 2025, 95% of customer interactions will be powered by AI.”

Were you aware that increasingly people do not know if they’re talking or interacting with a human or a bot?

While there are many applications of AI that may be good and helpful, the door is wide open for deception.

Carl noted that when you shop on Amazon, you get numerous other suggestions regarding other things to buy.  That’s AI.  It has a track record on you concerning what you’ve purchased, what you’ve been looking at, and how much time you spend looking at these things.  It’s so successful that the company increased their sales 29% to 12.83 billion dollars in one quarter.

He went on to describe how marketers can send out four different things to a small segment of consumers to find out what works best.  The result then gets sent out to the larger segment.  AI doesn’t need that.  It can do this immediately and he knows this personally because he uses AI.

His videos are on TikTok because that’s where the young people are.  He then went to ChatGPT and had them generate a title.  From that aspect alone, his viewership went up 60%.

Carl believes AI isn’t going away and it’s going to get a lot worse.  In fact, right in front of some students he went to ChatGPT and told it to write a biography about himself.  4 seconds later he had it.  While it was well done in some aspects, there were other aspects that weren’t true.  In other words, it can make things sound great but what it’s communicating may not be true.

As Jim pointed out, AI can take a small portion of a human voice and create dialogue, making listeners think that’s the actual person speaking.  So once again, there’s great deception and manipulation that has to be accounted for with this new technology.

Carl had much more to share, particularly regarding how we are to view this from a Christian perspective, while listeners from around the nation brought their opinions to the discussion as well.
