Character (Part 12)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about character.

Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 that the greatest commandment is to love God with all our hearts. That means loving Him more than anyone or anything else. But Jesus said there’s a runner-up commandment — loving our neighbor as ourselves. These two commandments really go together because if we love God first, all other loves — for people and for things — will fall into the right places.

LOVING OUR NEIGHBOR means serving — and sacrificing — for the good of others. Christ was the perfect model of this love as He gave up Heaven’s glory to come to earth to die for our sins. As we follow Christ, we die to ourselves so we can love others the way God wants us to.

After all, as Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have love one for another” (John 13:35 KJV)

And what about “self-love” — the so-called SELF-ESTEEM? We’ll discuss that another time.
