Character (Part 8)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about character.

Can holding a grudge make you sick? Believe it or not, the answer is “YES!”

An article by John Hopkins Medical titled “Forgiveness: Your Health Depends on It,” found that unresolved conflict, such as “a simple spat with your spouse or long-held resentment toward a family member or friend” … may be affecting your physical health. The good news: Studies have found that the act of forgiveness can reap huge rewards for your health, lowering the risk of heart attack; improving cholesterol levels and sleep; and reducing pain, blood pressure, and levels of anxiety, depression and stress.” (“https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/-/media/images/johns-hopkins-medicine-logo-horizontal-full-color.svg.” Johns Hopkins Medicine, 20 June 2024, www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/forgiveness-your-health-depends-on-it)

FORGIVENESS is intentionally letting go of the hurt someone has caused us — and that’s good for both the forgiver and the forgiven.

As C.S. Lewis said, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” (C.S. Lewis Institute. “Reflections: THE NECESSITY OF FORGIVENESS – C.S. Lewis Institute.” C.S. Lewis Institute, 1 July 2022, www.cslewisinstitute.org/resources/reflections-january-2007)

And why else is character important? We’ll discuss that another time.
