Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about the positive influence of the Church.
Forget tranquilizers! Believe it or not, a great way to get better sleep at night is attending church during the day.
Research by the National Sleep Foundation found that “more religious adults in particular tend to exhibit healthier sleep outcomes than their less religious counterparts” and that “religious involvement may be associated with healthier sleep outcomes by limiting mental, chemical, and physiological arousal associated with psychological distress, substance use, stress exposure, and allostatic load.”
In other words, Church helps meet the spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs that we have as human beings. God knew we needed others to help shoulder the burdens of life and, as we in the Church “bear one another’s burdens,” we help to lessen common stressors, making for better rest at night.
As Psalm 127:2 reminds us, “[God] gives His beloved sleep.” (NKJV)
How else does the Church benefit society? We’ll discuss that another time.
