Americans for Contraceptives recently touted President Biden’s scheduled visit to Wisconsin yesterday as a help for their position that Americans have a right to contraception. They assert that Wisconsin is a battleground state in what they call, quote, “the nationwide effort to safeguard individuals’ fundamental right to contraception through the passage of the Right to Contraception Act,” a federal policy proposal.
Surely Americans are asking when access to contraception became a right. Contraception is not health care; it is a personal choice regarding childbearing. Individuals who want contraception should be able to access it and either pay directly or through their insurance. All taxpayers should not be on the hook for this personal choice.
