Doesn’t Revelation 12:1-5 Happen During the Last Three-and-a-Half Years of the Tribulation Period?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

In Revelation 12, there are several things that take place. There will be a battle in the heavenlies between the evil angels and the good angels (7-17). Verses 1-5 happen at the end of the first three-and-a-half years of the Tribulation Period, chronologically, and the beginning of the last three-and-a-half years. The Lord is talking about what is going to happen, laying out the personalities that will be very prevalent in the last three-and-a-half years. In his description of the woman clothed with the sun and the moon at her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars refers to the dream that Joseph had (Genesis 37:9-11), a presentation in a dream to Joseph about his brothers and about his responsibility to his brothers and about the establishment of the nation of Israel. Jacob went into Egypt (Joseph was already there because his brothers sold him to the Egyptian merchants), taking his family of 70 and stayed there for 400 years (a prophecy given to Abraham, Genesis 15). They went in 70 people and came out more than 200 million people. This is referring to the nation of Israel being established.

Verses 3 and 4 are talking about Satan and one third of those angels that rebelled with Satan, Lucifer, 6,000 years ago.

Verses 5 and 6 are talking about Jesus Christ, the man-child, “And the woman (Israel) fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days (the last half of the Tribulation period).” This refers to Petra which the Lord has prepared to protect the Jewish people from the Great Tribulation, the Time of Jacob’s Trouble when the Lord has to dispatch Michael the Archangel (Daniel 12) to protect the Jewish people before they are totally annihilated. This is Satan’s whole purpose.

Revelation 12:7, Michael the Archangel and Satan (Revelation 12:9) will do battle and all of the evil angels will be thrown down to the Earth. Revelation 12:12 says that the heavenlies will rejoice but on the Earth, they better start mourning (Revelation 12:13 “And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.”). Verse 12 says that he knew that he had a short time. Verses 13-17 talk about the terrible tribulation upon the Jewish people. Satan’s desire is to wipe out the Jewish people. If that does happen, Satan will be the victor because God will not be able to keep His promises given to the Jewish people.
