Is Zechariah 5:9, Which Speaks of Two Women Coming with Wind in their Wings Like a Stalk Lifting Up a Basket, a Reference to Female Angels?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

Zechariah 5:5 speaks of the ninth of the ten visions that the Lord gives Zechariah. Zechariah 5:5-8 says, “Then the angel (Jesus Christ) that talked with me went forth and said unto me, ‘Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth (about this judgment that is coming).’ And he said, ‘This is an ephah that goeth forth.’ He said, ‘Moreover, this is their resemblance through all the Earth.’ And behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah. And he said, ‘This is wickedness.’ And he cast it into the midst of the ephah and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.” Zechariah 5:9-11 says, “Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and behold, there came out two women (out of the ephah, and he did not use the word angels), and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork (not angels, a stork is a dirty bird, portraying wickedness): and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. Then said I to the angel that talked with me, ‘Whither do these bear the ephah (Where are they going?)?’ And he said unto me, ‘To build it an house in the land of Shinar (Mesopotamia where the two rivers are – modern-day Iraq): and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.’”

Zechariah had just come out of the Babylonian captivity and was there to tell these Jews that you have to build a temple. This was his prophetic ministry to the Jews at this time. He also looks to the future of what will happen. This judgment mentioned in this passage is a foretelling of history (Revelation 18) during the last half of the Tribulation period.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
