Who Are the Seven Shepherds and Eight Principal Men in Micah 5:5?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

It’s important to look at the entire context of the book of Micah. Micah 5:4 says, “And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.” This is referring to the kingdom period when the Messiah will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There were some parables in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John which talk about the Jewish people. The Christians are not yet in existence. Christians come into existence on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2. Therefore, the parables given in the gospels are not written to the Christians but to the Jewish people. The Lord said that since you were faithful over so much, I will make you a leader over so many communities or towns.

Micah 5:5 is talking about the men, the leaders, who would come to power. Seven shepherds and eight principal men will be the ones who will rule with Jesus Christ. Jesus will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It will be a theocracy in the Kingdom to come, but the hands-on responsibility will be given to His people, the Jewish people, and they will have responsibility, being referred to as the shepherds and principal men in Micah 5.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
