What Is Your Analysis of Revelation 11:19 Where a Temple of God Is Mentioned, but in Revelation 21:22, John Said that He Saw No Temple Therein?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

Revelation 11:19 says, “And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.” The temple that is located in the heavens is there because of what Hebrews 9 tells us – it is a replica on the Earth … the original is in heaven. Read Hebrews 8:1-5. This is the original temple in the heavenlies, and the ones that were built here on the Earth are simply replicas of that heavenly temple.

Revelation 21:22 is not talking about heaven. Heaven is referred to in Revelation 11:19, the third heaven where God is. Revelation 21 is a description of the New Jerusalem, and it says very definitely that there is no temple in the New Jerusalem. It will be different from the third heaven. By the time that the New Jerusalem comes around, the third heaven will be burned up because of Satanic appearances (Revelation 12:10 says that Satan has a daily opportunity to go to the throne of God and accuse the brethren before God Himself). The first, second, and third heaven will all be destroyed, but the New Jerusalem will come after all of that destruction. There will be no temple in the New Jerusalem.

However, there will be a temple on the Temple Mount on the new Earth (Ezekiel 37:26 and 28 say that His temple will be among His people forever). King David will come to reign with Jesus Christ in that temple in the new Earth forever as well as during the Millennial Kingdom. It also talks of the everlasting covenant that He made with them.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
