Rufus King – February 21, 1787

Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.

It’s February 21, 1787. I’m in the Continental Congress with one of the framers of the federal Constitution, Rufus King of Massachusetts.

JG: “Mr. King, what are you about to do?”

RK: “Well, Mr. Gillespie, our country is in desperate need of a new constitution. We’re falling apart, and a strong central government is required to hold us together, so I’m calling for a national convention to meet this summer.”

As an eloquent advocate of strong federal government, Rufus King was a determined voice that helped give America its beginning.
