It’s December 2, 1833. I’m in Washington D.C. with Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story.

JG: “Justice Story, what are a few of the key points of your book Commentaries on the Constitution?”

JS: “Mr. Gillespie, it is essential that when interpreting the text of the Constitution, we first strive for the original intent of its authors. It is also imperative we recognize that our Constitution presupposes a Creator, whose laws guide us.”

Joseph Story’s Commentaries is a classic text on the original intent of our founders’ vision when creating a constitution.
