Captain Isaac Hull – August 19, 1812

Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.

It’s August 19, 1812. I’m with Captain Isaac Hull on the 44-gun frigate USS Constitution. We’re in a battle against the British frigate Guerriere.

JG: “Captain Hull, can your ship survive this attack? We’re so close.”

IH: “Look, John. Hey, did you see that British cannonball just bounce off our oak sides? We call this lady “Old Ironsides,” and just like America, she’ll never sink! We shall prevail!”

Old Ironsides and America did prevail. We won the war of 1812, and we continued to spread the American dream throughout the land.
