Research shows over half of women who have abortions report using contraception in the month they became pregnant. This means abortion has been used as a method of family planning. Since the Supreme Court reversed Roe, scores of women throughout the country realize abortion may not be available as backup family planning. As a result, Planned Parenthood and doctors’ offices have experienced a significant uptick in requests for permanent sterilizations. Response to this development varies. Some think these women are likely to regret their decisions. While others believe these sterilizations prevent future abortions.
