Fast Facts: Bears (Part 2)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

Let’s talk about the Brown Bear that can eat more than your average picnic basket!

These guys will consume up to 90 pounds of food in one day …. that’s 360 Quarter Pounders! And while that means they gain 2 pounds every day during warmer months, that essential body fat helps them survive the harsh winter and hibernation.

Brown Bears are both extremely territorial and solitary. They will range alone over a vast area for food, but the summer spawning of salmon in Alaska is a rare opportunity to see more than one Grizzly together.

These apex predators may encounter a cougar, wolf, coyote, or even a black bear without fear … the smaller animals quickly abandon their kill or surrender their dens to avoid a fight. Perhaps they know that one swipe of the powerful Grizzly paw can kill them instantly!

Check back soon as we take a look at those killer claws. Until then, stay bold!
