Fast Facts: Pandas – Part I

Carl Kerby

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope, I’m Carl Kerby, and today were talking about an animal that’s an excellent climber, an incredible swimmer, a movie star, known to playfully roll down hills, and has the ability to do handstands against a tree. Any guesses as to what animal we’re talking about?

Well … if you said the Giant Panda, then you, my friends, would be right! The Giant Panda is China’s national treasure and the symbol of peace. You might even remember that a Giant Panda was the star of the movie Kung Fu Panda.

Believe it or not, pandas are actually really shy creatures; they like to be alone in the remote beautiful forests of Central China. Maybe that’s because their eyesight and hearing are fairly poor. But what they lack in seeing and hearing, they more than make up for in smelling! They have an incredible sense of smell!

Smelling happens to be their main form of communication too. They use their 6-inch-long tail to paint their scent on brush and trees; their scent will mark their territory, attract a mate, and identify who they are. This is just one way God has uniquely and perfectly designed the panda for their environment.

Check our next Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope to find out even more interesting and unique facts about the panda. And until then, stay bold!
