From the very beginning, the authority of God’s Word has been under attack. God gave clear instruction in the Garden of Eden as recorded in Genesis 2:16 and following: “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.’” In Genesis chapter 3, the serpent spoke to Eve, “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” The serpent put this question in her mind to cause doubt and later countered what God said, “Ye shall not surely die.” Tragically, Eve took of the fruit and ate it. She gave it to Adam, who also ate it, and thus sin entered into the world. We often look back and ask how could they do such a thing. Yet, in our secular world and in pulpits across the country, the same challenge is happening day after day, questioning the authority of the Scriptures.
Returning to Crosstalk to answer this concern was Ken Ham. Ken is founder of Answers in Genesis and its life-changing attractions: the highly acclaimed Creation Museum and the world-renowned Ark Encounter. Ken is a biblical apologist and author of multiple books, including Divine Dilemma (understanding death, disease, and suffering); Divided Nation (about today’s culture wars); Creation to Babel (a devotional commentary); The Lie: Unraveling the Myth: Evolution/Millions of Years and Miraculous: The Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis Story.
Ken is also a blogger and speaker on Answers…with Ken Ham. Their purpose is to equip Christians to face the challenges of culture, restore the foundations of the church and share the gospel confidently. His core message stresses the importance of biblical authority from the very first verse of Scripture.
Join Jim as he has Ken comment on the following challenges that come from not only secular voices, but religious ones as well:
- Joy Behar from the The View TV show who said that Jesus didn’t go around saying he was the Messiah.
- Yvette Flunder, the senior pastor of the City of Refugee United Church of Christ in Oakland, California, called for a third testament while also claiming the Bible is not the Word of God, but words about God.
- Anna Flowers of the United Church in Walpose, Massachusetts, who pontificates on her problem with the historic interpretation of John 14:6.
- Reverend Tom Willadsen, a Springfield, Missouri, pastor who believes 1 Peter 2:2-10 and John 14:1-7 are used by some Christians as “clobber” passages.
- Pastor Andy Stanley invited John Dickson who told the audience that he questions whether we should believe in the resurrection just because the Bible tells us so. In other words, are those first century documents (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) reliable? How do we know?
You’ll also get an update on what’s taking place at the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, and you’ll hear listeners as they put forth their questions and comments to round out the broadcast.
