The New Year

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about the New Year.

According to research cited by Ohio State University, only 9% of Americans making New Year’s resolutions actually keep them. (see Hillard, Hugo. “Why Most New Year’s Resolutions Fail.” Lead Read Today, Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, 13 Jan. 2020) And while that low number may be from a lack of willpower, it could also be that our resolutions today just aren’t that significant. In fact, Forbes magazine pointed out that the most common resolutions are about fitness, finances, mental health, weight loss, and diet (Walden, Afton. “New Year’s Resolutions Survey 2024.” Forbes Health, 19 Dec. 2023) — none of which really has any eternal value.

Instead, this New Year’s, resolve to address spiritual needs, like your Bible reading, prayer life, or evangelizing.

As Billy Graham said, “The most important resolution you can make as another year approaches is this: to open your heart and life to Jesus Christ and commit your life to Him. Don’t waste your time on resolutions that don’t ultimately matter; resolve instead to live for Christ.” (Billy Graham. Billy Graham Evangelistic Association [Canada], 31 Dec. [n.d.])

And what other issues are important to believers? Well, we’ll discuss that another time.
