Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about Christmas.
Christmas is not just an American holiday. According to Bureau Works, “more than 2 billion people in over 160 countries consider Christmas to be one of the most important dates in the calendar.” (“Christmas Around the World.” Bureau Works, 12 July 2025) In fact, the impact of Jesus’ birth is so significant that even many non-Christian countries celebrate it.
In some way, they acknowledge the profound words of Isaiah: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 ESV)
As C.S. Lewis said, “Once in our world, a stable had something in it that was bigger than our whole world.” (Lewis, C.S. The Last Battle. HarperCollins, 2000)
And, as Doctor Seuss wrote, “Maybe Christmas, the Grinch said, doesn’t come from a Store. Maybe Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more.” (Seuss, Dr. How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Random House, 1957)
And what else is important to believers? We’ll discuss that another time.
