Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about Christmas.
Christmas is popular — in fact, one Gallup report found that 93% of Americans celebrate the holiday. (see Gallup. “Americans Celebrating a Secular Christmas.” Gallup, 12 Dec. 2019) But despite its popularity, sometimes its meaning gets lost in the midst of presents, lights, and pageants.
Christmas really celebrates God stepping into our world to bring us salvation. When mankind had rebelled and run from his Creator, God sent His Son to earth to restore man’s relationship with Himself. When man had no options to redeem himself, Christ was born into the world to live among us, point us to the Father, and take the punishment for our sins on the cross. That is truly what Christmas means.
As Timothy Keller said, “Christmas is telling you that you could never get to heaven on your own. God had to come to you.” (Keller, Timothy. Facebook, 12 Dec. 2019)
And what else should be important to believers? We’ll discuss that another time.
