Moderation

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about the virtue of moderation.

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease, a staggering 42% of American adults struggle with OBESITY. (“Overweight & Obesity Statistics.” National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2021) Americans consume more food than is healthy, and our obesity epidemic is leading to increases in diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

The virtue of moderation, in contrast, isn’t one that gets much attention these days, but it’s one our generation desperately needs.

Moderation is the idea of SELF-RESTRAINT — and it doesn’t apply just to food. Many people lack self-restraint when it comes to social media, video games, shopping, or a host of other things. But Philippians 4:5 says, “Let your moderation be known unto all men.” (KJV) Christians demonstrate moderation by having correct priorities, fulfilling the responsibilities that God has given them, and limiting the amount of excess in their lives.

Now, how does The Fruit of the Spirit work in believers’ lives? We’ll discuss that another time.
