Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Day in America originated with the Pilgrims giving thanks to God for providing a bountiful harvest when their needs were greatest. Today, likewise, we should express our gratitude for the many blessings we have from God’s hand, and Thanksgiving is a good reminder of our need to say “thanks” to the Lord.
But giving thanks is not just important because God deserves it; giving thanks is also good for US.
As John MacArthur said, “A thankful heart is one of the primary identifying characteristics of a believer. It stands in stark contrast to pride, selfishness, and worry. And it helps fortify the believer’s trust in the Lord and reliance of His provision, even in the toughest times. No matter how choppy the seas become, a believer’s heart is buoyed by constant praise and gratefulness to the Lord.” (MacArthur, John. Grace to You Newsletter. Grace to You, Mar. 2009)
Now what else should be important to believers? We’ll discuss that another time.
