Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about virtue again.
Many Americans today shake their heads at the downward moral spiral of our country. As biblical virtues are mocked and sinful vices exalted in the popular culture, believers understand the connection between national wickedness and national DECLINE. After all, Proverbs 14:34 reminds us, “Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (ESV)
As author Thomas Ricks says, “Public Virtue cannot exist in a Nation without private [virtue], and public Virtue is the only Foundation of Republics.” (see Micek, John L. “What the Founders Meant by ‘Virtue,’ and How It Could Save Our Politics Now.” Ohio Capital Journal, 5 May 2022) In other words, virtue in a culture comes down to whether or not the people are VIRTUOUS INDIVIDUALS.
In (2 Peter 1:3), we are told that as believers God has “called us to glory and virtue.” (KJV) And the more that we demonstrate biblical virtues in our lives as individuals, the more we will see virtue characterized by our nation.
Now what specific virtues should be important to believers? We’ll discuss those another time.
