Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about virtues.
In 2 Peter 1:5, believers are told “[A]dd to your faith virtue.” (KJV) But what IS a virtue? Simply put, a virtue is a character quality — like generosity, humility, or courage—that we should aspire to have in our lives.
In previous generations, educators, politicians, and pastors encouraged those under their influence to be VIRTUOUS. Unfortunately, VICE — the opposite of VIRTUE — is being billed by our pop culture as “cool” and “trendy,” as today’s entertainment and sports figures are often role models for doing wrong rather than right.
But virtuous actions only come from virtuous principles we hold in our hearts — specifically ones found in God’s Word.
As Martin Luther said, “Men are not made religious by performing certain actions which are externally good, but they must first have righteous principles, and then they will not fail to perform virtuous actions.” (“Martin Luther Quote.” A-Z Quotes, www.azquotes.com/quote/1232800?utm_source=chatgpt.com)
Now, what else should believers know about virtue? Well, we’ll discuss that another time.
