Character (Part 6)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about character.

People in our culture have a hard time keeping their promises — even legally binding ones!

According to a survey by Consumer Affairs, “50% of Americans struggle to pay their bills on time.” (Reporter, Mark Huffman. “What Unexpected Expense Keeps You up at Night?” Consumer Affairs, 16 July 2025, www.consumeraffairs.com/news/what-unexpected-expense-keeps-you-up-at-night-071625.html) That’s HALF of all Americans not keeping their financial commitments!

In contrast, FAITHFULNESS is the character quality of living up to commitments we’ve made. Whether those commitments are to our spouse, our children, our church, or our employer, God expects us as believers to follow through on what we say. In fact, Psalm 15:4 says that godly men “keep their promises even when it hurts” (NLT).

In addition, keeping our commitments helps us to both be a blessing to other Christians and to maintain a good testimony to the world.

As Hudson Taylor said, “A little thing is a little thing, but faithfulness in little things is a great thing.”

And what other aspects of character are important? We’ll discuss that another time.
