Welcome!
Today, we’re talking about biblical literacy.
According to the American Worldview Inventory from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, “Even among the 71% of Americans who consider themselves to be Christians, fewer than 20% adopt the biblical view that our purpose is to know, love and serve God.” Instead, this study found most Americans feel their own personal happiness, health, and well-being hold life’s purpose.
But Ecclesiastes 12:13 reminds us of what our purpose in life really is when it says, “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (ESV)
In other words, life’s purpose is found in acknowledging God and following His instructions in the Bible. As we read Scripture, we discover God’s will for our lives.
As Billy Graham said, “If you are ignorant of God’s Word, you will always be ignorant of God’s will.”
And why else is biblical literacy important? We’ll discuss that another time.
