Welcome!
Today, we’re talking about biblical literacy.
According to George Barna’s State of the Bible report, “35% of Americans say they never read the Bible,” and “60% of Americans read the Bible less than five times per year.” That’s a shocking statistic considering the multitude of Bible translations available as well as the massive amount of online Christian resources at our fingertips.
Americans have access to Bibles — they just aren’t using them.
And this has cultural repercussions. Although Barna’s American Worldview Inventory found that 68% of Americans claim to be Christians, only 4% have a genuine biblical worldview.
To keep our heads straight in a crooked world and to effectively share the Gospel with others, we need to dig into God’s Word and let it guide our lives.
As D. L. Moody said, “I never saw a useful Christian who was not a student of the Bible.”
And why else is biblical literacy important? We’ll discuss that another time.
