The Importance of Biblical Literacy (Part 4)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about biblical literacy.

Despite the decline of Bible reading in America, Lifeway Research found that a majority of Americans — 52% — say the Bible is a “good source of morals,” suggesting Americans know the principles in Scripture are good for society.

This makes sense since the Bible teaches us right from wrong and makes clear that man’s sinful nature needs restraint by governing authorities. Without Scripture, we can’t understand human nature or our need for accountability.

As Elisabeth Elliot said, “The Word of God I think of as a straight edge, which shows up our own crookedness. We can’t really tell how crooked our thinking is until we line it up with the straight edge of Scripture.”

God’s Word truly is a “lamp” to our feet and a “light” to our path, guiding us through the darkness of this world and keeping us from stumbling.

And why else is biblical literacy important? We’ll discuss that another time.
