The Importance of Biblical Literacy (Part 3)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about biblical literacy.

Lifeway Research found that “more than half of Americans have read little or none of the Bible.” Yet the American Bible Society reports nearly 90% of Americans OWN a Bible — with the average home having THREE COPIES!

But it’s not enough just to HAVE a Bible. We need to READ IT! It’s no coincidence that our culture is declining at the same time our Bible reading is.

You see, it’s only in knowing God’s Word that we can defend our faith when challenged by the world’s false philosophies.

As R. C. Sproul said, “The Bible never tells us to take a leap of faith into the darkness and hope that there’s somebody out there . . . The faith that the New Testament calls us to is a faith rooted and grounded in something that God makes clear is the truth.”

And why else is biblical literacy important? We’ll discuss that another time.
