The Black Lives Matter Movement (Part 1)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about BLM.

Founded in 2013 and garnering international attention after the George Floyd tragedy in 2020, Black Lives Matter portrays itself as a movement promoting racial equality. That sounds pretty good — after all, black lives, like all other lives, really DO matter. But upon a closer look, BLM’s ideology is far from a biblical worldview.

For example, two of BLM’s founders, Patrisse Cullors and Alicia Garza, have openly described themselves as “trained Marxists,” and the blacklivesmatter.com website has attacked the “Western-prescribed nuclear family” and calls itself a “queer‐affirming network.”

As Kay Cole James, African-American and former secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, said, “Groups like  . . .  the BLM organization want to impose an ideology on America that would only bring greater poverty, a loss of freedom, destruction to churches and civil society, and violent law enforcement tactics.”

And that’s bad for every American!

So, what else should Christians think about BLM? We’ll discuss that another time.
