Welcome!
Today, we’re talking about global missions.
We’ve all heard stories of famous missionaries of the past like Hudson Taylor, David Livingstone, and Jim Eliot. But how effective have global missions REALLY been?
Actually, VERY EFFECTIVE!
According to a report by Reuters News Service, “By 2000, about two-thirds of the world’s Christians came from countries where western missionaries worked a century earlier.” That means most believers in the world today came to Christ from the missionary work of the previous 100 years. That’s an amazing return on missionary investment!
So, let’s remember Jesus’ words to His disciples about souls ready and waiting to be reached: “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest” (John 4:35, ESV).
And how can we still help with missions if we don’t feel called to full-time missionary work? We’ll discuss that another time.
