Welcome!
Today, we’re talking about the Christian and community service.
According to the American Sociological Association’s Journal of Health and Social Behavior, researchers found a link between volunteering and psychological well-being.
That shouldn’t surprise us as believers. After all, Matthew 5:7 says, “Blessed are the merciful” (KJV) — and the Greek word for BLESSED used there is translated elsewhere in the New Testament as HAPPY! When we show mercy to others by helping to meet their needs, WE end up receiving HAPPINESS as a result.
You see, God created us to serve one another. Volunteering at rescue missions, crisis pregnancy centers, or food pantries can be a great help to others, but it does OUR hearts good as well.
As Billy Graham said, “God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.”
And what else should the Christian think about community service? We’ll discuss that another time.
