Charity (Part 4)

Welcome!

Today, we’re talking about charity.

How giving are Americans? Well, it turns out that Americans are generous with giving their money — but STINGY with giving THEMSELVES!

According to the Philanthropy Roundtable, an impressive 60% of Americans give financially to charities. Yet research by the Corporation for National and Community Service and the National Conference on Citizenship found that only 25% of Americans actually volunteer at charitable organizations like the Salvation Army or local rescue missions — and Gallup found that only 35% of Americans serve in religious organizations — including churches!

As believers, Scripture teaches that we should not only give our treasures but also our time and talent for Christ. In fact, writing to the church at Corinth, the apostle Paul says of himself, “I will very gladly spend and be spent for you” (2 Corinthians 12:15 KJV).

Giving of our possessions is important, but equally important is giving of OURSELVES.

And what danger does materialism pose? We’ll discuss that another time.
