Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about charity.
Would you believe that there’s a connection between being GODLY and being GIVING?
Well, a study by The Chronicle of Philanthropy found that “[t]he states and communities that tended to give the highest percentage of income to charity were those with high rates of religious participation.”
In other words, what people believe affects how they live, and those who have a biblical worldview tend to be more generous with their money. That makes perfect sense when we consider the importance Scripture places on loving our neighbor. As Christ changes our hearts, we begin to love others like God loves them and to sacrifice to help those in need – following the example of the Savior Himself.
As churchman Thomas Fuller said, “It is the glory of the true religion that it inculcates and inspires a spirit of benevolence.”
How else should believers think about charity? We’ll discuss that another time.
