The Problem of Suffering (Part 2)

Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!

Today, we’re talking about the problem of suffering.

Many people wonder why a good God allows bad things to happen to them. The fact is that suffering – like hardship, sickness, and death – affects us ALL at one time or another. It’s the reality of living in a FALLEN WORLD marred by sin. Romans 5:12 tells us that “by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” (KJV)

But even though we all feel sin’s effects in this life, the good news is that God sent Jesus into our fallen world to bring redemption – to us personally and someday to creation itself.

As Elisabeth Elliot said, “We want to avoid suffering, death, sin, ashes. But we live in a world crushed and broken and torn, a world God Himself visited to redeem.”

How else should believers view suffering? We’ll discuss that another time.
