LIFE ISSUES: Physician-Assisted Suicide (Part 1)

Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!

Today, we’re talking about life issues, specifically physician-assisted suicide.

In the 1990s, Jack Kevorkian gave lethal chemical injections to 130 people who requested it, ending their lives. As a result, “Doctor Death” Kevorkian spent eight years in prison on manslaughter charges.

But that was then …

As of 2021, nine states and the District of Columbia have LEGALIZED physician-assisted suicide, with many more states considering doing so.

Advocates for PAS claim the terminally ill should be allowed to “die with dignity” but, in reality, assisted suicide devalues life in the culture by promoting the idea that only healthy people’s lives are worth living.

As Joni Eareckson Tada, a quadriplegic, said, “Community is sacrificed when individuals choose with only themselves in mind.”

As compassionate as physician-assisted suicide may seem for terminal patients, life is sacred and, ultimately, should be left in God’s hands.

And how is physician-assisted suicide viewed in OTHER countries? We’ll discuss that another time.
