Today, we’re talking about the enemy’s strategies.
Pornography used to be confined to “adult” bookstores in shady parts of town and was off-limits to youth.
Not anymore.
Today’s internet gives young people unprecedented — and often unchecked — access to pornographic material. In fact, The Huffington Post reports that 90% of boys and 60% of girls will have been exposed to pornography by age 18 — with the medium age of exposure 11!
Research has shown pornography harms a person’s MENTAL and PHYSIOLOGICAL health, but in Matthew 5 Jesus warns that impure sexual thoughts harm one’s SPIRITUAL well-being as well.
To fight pornography, parents should limit their child’s time online, check their child’s phones regularly if he/she has one, and consider using an internet filter. Young people themselves must be careful navigating the internet, resisting the temptation to view pornography.
As 1 Timothy 5 says, “Keep yourself pure.”
