BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW: Argument from Biblical Preservation of the Old Testament

Today, we’re talking about evidence supporting the accurate preservation of the biblical text. There are many reasons to avoid false worldviews, but there are also many good reasons to trust the biblical worldview. One is the amazing preservation of the Bible throughout history.

Take the Hebrew Old Testament, for example. Without modern printing presses or digital imaging, manuscripts in ancient times were hand copied. Jewish scribes were so careful transcribing God’s words that they counted the individual letters to avoid errors. Scrolls having even one copying error were discarded. The result was that Old Testament manuscripts from different eras are nearly identical. In fact, the Dead Sea Scrolls were found to be almost indistinguishable from modern copies, despite being 1,000 years older!

As theologian Norman Geisler said:

The text of our modern Bibles is so close to the original that we can have every confidence that what it teaches is truth.

But what about New Testament manuscripts? We’ll discuss those at another time. Until then, for more information, go to www.hopetools.net.  Stay bold!
