DESIGN: The Anthropic Principle

Today, we’re talking about another apologetic tool – the argument from design. Scientists use a term (the ANTHROPIC PRINCIPLE) to explain how the universe (specifically, the earth) has the EXACT characteristics needed to both exist and maintain life.

For example, if the earth were closer or farther away from the sun, life wouldn’t be sustainable. If the tilt of earth’s axis were different, life couldn’t continue as we know it. If amounts of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide in earth’s atmosphere were any different, life would be impossible.  There are just TOO MANY coincidences to believe that life came by random chance.

Physicist Heinz Pagels said:

The reason the universe seems tailor-made for our existence is that it was tailor-made for our existence; some supreme being created it as a home for intelligent life.

Well … that “supreme being” would be GOD! Proverbs 3:19 says, “The LORD by WISDOM has founded the earth; by UNDERSTANDING He has established the heavens.”

There’s more evidence for design, including what we see in the atom, but we’ll need to address that another time. Until then, find more apologetic resources at debunked.org. Stay bold!
