Was There a Historical Adam? (Part 1)

Was Adam a real man? Some Christians who accept evolution say that Adam was not a real person – just an allegory representing the human race after evolving. But there’s a problem with that.

If Adam only represented humanity after millions of years of evolution (which requires death – and lots of it), then that would mean there was death BEFORE Adam sinned! Yet, in Genesis 1, we read that God made the world “very good.” In Genesis 3, we read that it’s Adam’s disobedience to God that caused sin and death to enter the world. It’s NOT God’s fault that we suffer – it’s ours! If death came by Adam, then there couldn’t have been any death before Adam. In fact, 1 Corinthians 15:22 tells us clearly, that “in Adam all die.”  Sinful man caused death!!

Without a historical Adam, Christians who accept evolution are hard-pressed to explain how sin came into the world in the first place.

There’s also another problem with the idea of Adam being an allegory and not a real person. We’ll address that question another time. Until then, find more apologetic resources at debunked.org. Stay bold!
