What About Lucy/Australopithecus? (Part 4)

We’re talking about our supposed evolutionary ancestor, Lucy, again.  We’ve all seen the images of her being depicted as an upright walking ape.  But, what’s the truth? Do the fossils support this depiction?

There’s one piece of anatomy that would answer that question beyond a shadow of doubt.  That’s … the hips. Human hips are shaped to allow most humans to walk upright without any issues.  Ape hips, on the other hand, flare out almost forcing them to walk on all fours.  What about Lucy?

In a documentary entitled “In Search of Human Origins,” we hear the man who discovered Lucy make a startling admission.  He said:

The knee looked human, but the shape of her hip didn’t. Superficially, her hip resembled a chimpanzee’s, which meant that Lucy couldn’t possibly have walked like a modern human.

Wait … what!?

The hip resembled a chimpanzee???  Then she can’t walk upright!!

What did they do to fix this problem?  Well, that’s for next time. For more tools, check out our website at debunked.org. Stay bold!
