This is Ken Ham, author of the popular devotional commentary, Creation to Babel.

In the book of Colossians, we’re told to beware of being taken captive by philosophy and empty deceit. Now, how can we know what is mere philosophy and deceit? Well, the Apostle Paul says that such things are according to human traditions, the things of this world, not Christ!

How do we know what’s according to Christ? By looking to his Word! The only way we know anything authoritative about Christ is from his Word. It tells us everything we need for life, for godliness.

Does a teacher point you back to God’s Word and to Christ? Or do they distract you by focusing on things outside God’s Word? The focus should be on Christ!
