Mutations—Driving Evolution?

This week we’ve seen that natural selection is often considered the “driving force” of evolution. But, in reality, it’s the opposite of evolution.

Now, the other evolutionary “superpower” is thought to be mutations. Do these mutations give evolution the new genetic information it needs?

No!

Mutations are changes in genetic information that already exists. Mutations don’t create brand-new, genetic information. They just corrupt information that’s already there.

And mutations aren’t beneficial anyway to help evolution along! They usually cause problems—they aren’t a good thing!

Evolution—it’s impossible!
