The Hypostatic Union

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.

Something I have been pondering lately is the matchless, never-ending, wonderful love of God. As we celebrate this season of Jesus’ birth, I’m reminded that the God who created the universe—and us!—gave up His glorious throne to step into this world as a man. Now don’t get me wrong—Jesus is God. He’s always been one hundred percent so. At the same time, He came to earth, born as a baby… He is also one hundred percent man. This is known as the hypostatic union. And when He was born, His glory was veiled. It must have been quite difficult for Him to humbly take on flesh, but Jesus did it out of His great love for us, and His desire for God’s glory. He chose the road to the cross because He knew His perfect life must be the sacrifice for our imperfect ones. He came to live beside us and share how we can have eternal life.
