Rich Christiano is a film writer, director & producer.  In 2002 he, along with his brother Dave, formed Five & Two Pictures, reminiscent of the lad who shared what he had – 5 loaves and two fish.  Rich is responsible for multiple films such as Time Changer, Unidentified, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry, A Matter of Faith, Play the Flute and Mind Reader.

As Christians we need to think on those things that Paul wrote about.  It’s those things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.  Rich understands this and that’s why he follows these three criteria when it comes to producing movies.  They must please the Lord, motivate Christians to live for the Lord and they must share the Gospel.

It’s from this perspective that Rich spoke from as he described 4 powerful films that he’s produced and how they can be used by you to share God’s great gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Jim also provided audio clips from each movie that highlights their impact:  The movies discussed were:

Unidentified—Two reporters for a magazine investigate a UFO sighting in a small Texas town.  Three end up writing about it and all have separate angles to their stories.  It’s an interesting movie as the Gospel comes out during the sometimes intense back-and-forth between the main characters; an atheist, a solid Christian and another who merely thinks he’s a Christian.

The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry (Jonathan is played by Gavin McLeod)—Taking place in 1970, this movie is about a 75 year old man who befriends three, 12 year old boys and begins holding Bible studies with them.  For Rich, one of the main purposes of the movie was to let viewers know that at age 75, life doesn’t end; you can still do ministry.

A Matter of Faith—A drama about a woman (Rachel Whitaker) that goes to college where her biology teacher (played by Harry Anderson) teaches evolution.  He starts pulling her in, making it sound like evolution might actually be true.  This causes her to begin drifting from the Lord which her father senses.  In response, he confronts the biology teacher and the teacher challenges the father to a debate.  He accepts and the drama builds!

Play the Flute—A youth pastor takes over an indifferent youth group and tries to motivate these kids and encourage them to get serious about a relationship with the Lord just by using the Bible and not fun and games.
